    Item Description

Three vessels are to be sold for scrap, approximately 1050 MT:
  • The brown tug "Julia," is a twin screw 52 x 26ft. tug, built in Mississippi in 1962. It was powered by two Caterpillar 2600 series engines and the vessel was designed to pull barges and move ocean going vessels from their moorings to open water. It has been sold several times from 1962, 1968,1972,1980, and recently was owned by Higman Towing Company operating in Houston, Texas from 1983 to 1991. The present owner put the vessel in service from 1991 to 1996 used primarily to move barges in and around the fleet. It has been out of service since 1996 and the engine power train was dismantled and no longer considered for continued service. The vessel weighs between 75 and 150 metric tons.
  • The double deck "Party Barge," has very little previous history. At present no records are available as to its origin. The vessel at least at some point was considered as a floating party barge with two large horseshoe shaped bars and large galley for food preparation. It appears that the vessel also had the potential to have lounges on its mid deck and possible living quarters as well. The lower deck where the bars were being built has large deck space out of the weather for guests to dance to their favorite tunes. The lower deck contains generator sets and the party barge is wired for electrical purposes. The company that is placing the vessel for sale holds the vessel under maritime abandoned vessel rights due to owned property close to vessels present mooring location. The vessel has remained at its current location for the several years. The vessel was built very well with heavy guage steel and believed to weigh between 400 and 450 metric tons.
  • The White tug "TD 51," is a twin screw 65 x 30 foot tug previously owned and operated by the US Navy. Very little history is available on the vessel due to being built prior to 1965. As a result of its age however, it is believed to contain approximately 1% asbestos in its interior walls. The asbestos would have to be removed and properly disposed of at the buyers cost. The vessel weighs between 100 and 150 metric tons.
  • There are an additional 4 bow boats available with this current offering. One is on dry dock already. The other three are afloat and ready to be towed into shore and scrapped. Three of the vessels are 48x30 and weigh 50 to 75 tons each. The last vessel is 40x30 and weighs 30 tons. Additionally there is adjacent to the party barge a hooper barge and this structured open deck barge is 195x75 and weighs 150 metric tons.
